The Carl Sandburg College baseball team came out on the short end of a slugfest Wednesday at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex, falling 17-9 to Illinois Central.

Key Moments

  • The Chargers (8-7-1) scored four in the third inning for a 4-3 lead. Shortstop Braedon Blackford (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) hit a two-run homer to right — his fourth longball in two days — to get Sandburg on the board, and Tyler Womack (Moline, Ill./Moline) sent a two-run shot to center later in the frame for a 4-3 Chargers lead.
  • ICC answered with six runs in both the fourth and fifth to regain the lead, sending 12 men to the plate in the fourth and 11 in the fifth.
